T-minus 90 days until Christmas 2012. And that’s why we’re here. To kick things off for the early birds, and let those of you who don’t want to think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving feel smug about what crazies we early birds are.

Look, if people can have Oktoberfest in August, then we can start getting Christmased in September.

If you haven’t been here before, Christmased.com is a place for all things Christmas–the religious, the secular, and combos of both. We’re excited about Christmas, we like Christmas, but we also examine the dark side of the season–commercialism, isolation, disconnectedness. Basically, if you’re thinking it about Christmas, it’s safe to say it here.

Feel free to follow us on Twitter and Pinterest and Like us on Facebook. I’ll be putting up some Christmas music playlists in the next few weeks for your listening pleasure.

Have an idea for a topic you’d like to see here? Leave a comment here or on our FB page, or Tweet it to us.

And now for the big question: If you could get any gift this year for Christmas, what would it be?

  1. Red says:

I want a car that doesn’t break down.

  2. Magda says:

I would like a pair of jeans that fits really well. I also want a big, roomy weekender bag that’s handmade by someone. And a bottle of B&B.

  3. Julia says:

If we’re talking “outside the realms of human accomplishment,” I’d go for a magic spell that would cause my health to improve dramatically. Slightly less outside the realms of possibility, I would dearly love to have a remission in whatever is going on for a few months.

In the real world, I wouldn’t mind having gotten a positive pregnancy test by then.

In terms of things people could give me, there’s things I don’t expect to get: an Android tablet; a GPS that works for the *whole* trip, instead of conking out 3 miles from the destination; a new food processor; a few attachments for the KitchenAid.

And then there are the things I will ask for: A Christmas tree; a goose to cook for Christmas dinner; something hand made.

  4. Meggan says:

A pair of high-quality leather boots. I’m super short and I have 15.75″ calves, so finding boots I can even PUT ON is a challenge. I desperately want a normal, knee-high pull-on pair of brown leather boots and I am getting so discouraged trying to find a pair that works.

Either that, or an iPad. Maybe both.

  5. Annika says:

There’s plenty of *stuff* I want, but what I really, REALLY want is to be caught up on our bills and for insurance to pay for the stuff it promised to pay for and didn’t (the latter would help an awful lot with the former).

  6. Laura says:

I would like my husband to find a job locally so we don’t have to move. The thought of uprooting the kids, taking them away from family and friends, trying to prep and sell our house, and finding a new job for myself, as well as settling into a new place, could not be less appealing.

  7. MinnieK says:

My number one wish? Money to do a round of IVF.

  8. Diana says:

    A Canon 5D Mark III camera, with a 100mm macro L lens.
I would take just the camera, or just the lens. But I’d love both.
I won’t be getting either because we can’t afford it.

  9. LC says:

The new version of Rosetta Stone – Korean so that when we go to visit DH’s family I understand what they’re saying. But I used my really expensive gift for the year on my birthday (jogging stroller). So a related Christmas wish would be to actually have completed my training so that I can finish the half marathon I’m running a little after New Year’s.

  10. BlueBirdMama says:

In the material world: A GPS running watch, a pair of new boots, a sweater (in an nutshell: a very large gift card to a nice department store).

Non-material: continued health for my family, continued progress toward finishing my dissertation (a gift I can give myself!), more sleep.

Impossible: more hours in the day, a non-dysfunctional extended family.

  11. A place to live that isn’t my MIL’s house.

  12. Bird says:

To skip the four month sleep regression altogether.

Barring that, a set of sturdy measuring cups with the measurements permanently etched on, NOT painted on.

  13. Jessie says:

Time to take figure skating lessons every week.

It’s been my dream since I was about 7. I’m not *at all* athletic. But I’m not letting go of this one. If it takes me till after my (3-year-old) daughter is all grown up and out of house, I’m going to learn how to do a waltz jump.

  14. maggiemoo says:

To have our mortgage caught up and not have the threat of losing our house hanging over our heads:(

  15. LeiRei says:

To be able to pick my child up, carry him, and help him take his little steps while bent over him and holding his hands, without being in pain.

And to appreciate what I do have and not dwell on the pain.

  16. the milliner says:

    To borrow from BlueBirdMama:
Material: Some new clothes (or gift cards to get new clothes).

Non-material: A year of good health for us, our friends and families.

Impossible: 8 hours of sleep a night. Every night.

And, gift to myself: A handmade weekender (and the time to make it myself…I have the pattern waiting…just need to get fabric & get down to business).

  17. Kenzie says:

A fully paid for house, with a yard, and a rental suite in the basement. Either in South Burnaby, near Metrotown, or in North Burnaby, just off Hastings, within walking distance of important stuff. I mean, sure, it’s a bit big, but you did say “any gift”.

  18. Lindsay says:

All I want is sleep. Not having it is taking a real toll.
