So, what projects are you working on? (At this point we can assume that we still have time to finish them all, right?) Don’t forget to answer anonymously (with a fake name and email address) if anyone you’re making a project for might read this.
I’m working on (and am almost done with) this shawl for someone: Maja.
Then I have to do a few non-Christmas-related projects (people are still having babies!), and then I decided to knit a hoodie for each of my boys. (Yes, I decided this after I read my own post about having my shopping 80% done, because apparently I don’t like free time.)
And then I have to do our Christmas cards so I can send them out after Thanksgiving.
What are you up to?
Well, Christmas cards.
And then 6 matching vests to knit for my parents’ grandchildren to wear on Christmas day. What am I thinking?
I am still trying to finish the blanket that was supposed to be for my nephew when he was born (got seriously derailed for several months by chronic tendinitis). He’ll be having his first birthday in December and I am frantically trying to get this thing done by then. And because I am crazy, I just started crocheting a granny-square afghan. One square down, 34 to go!
I have yet to come up with a mass craft project. But then, if I started it now, I’d miss out on the frantic crafting during the holiday season, and what fun would *that* be?
I have to ask…will your boys wear the hoodies? Do they appreciate the time it takes you to make something like this? And, how would you feel if they don’t wear them?
I learned my lesson 15 years ago about knitting for people who won’t appreciate it, so I don’t do that anymore. The hoodies are requests from the boys that I told them I didn’t have time to do before.
I have several skeins of yarn that I bought at a going out of business sale… I think my handmade gift of the year will be cowls (fun to knit, relatively quick) but I keep second-guessing whether people will really use them. (I hate to spend all that time and have it sit in a closet!)
DH reminded me the other day that I should probably focus on Hallowe’en before I start anything Christmas…and I think he’s right. Lion costume is on the agenda as well as some cookies for L’s class at daycare. I’ve just barely started thinking about Xmas cards. And otherwise pinning stuff on Pinterest. Once our Thanksgiving and the Hallowe’en costume are done I’ll make the list for Christmas. One thing I know will be on our list will be homemade bread + salt dough ornaments + bookstore gift cards for the daycare teachers. Did the same thing last year and the bread (made by DH & L) was a huge hit. No reason to change things up this year. Oh! And I’ve also started taking a pottery class 1x per week. Apparently we can do up to 15-20 thrown pieces by the end of the course. Am planning to give bowls to various people on my list. But that learning curve better kick in soon. Didn’t produce anything my first class! What I love about this is that it’s both time for me (the reason I enrolled in the class) and getting some gifts done. Yay.
First up, spinning the giant web in the front archway and populating with a spider colony which will be in place through Halloween.
Brian wants us to try making our own candied citrus peel after seeing a how-to in the new issue of Organic Gardening. We went looking for some organic sweet citrus today (tangerines, etc), but we must be in the nadir of the citrus year — both the co-op and Whole Foods only had Valencia oranges and grapefruits. So we’ll have to wait a few weeks to start.
